The source of "Arizona" state name
Arizona's official word on the origin of saying, there are many versions of the historian: Ao Hamu family language O'odham: "alǐson" represents a "spring spring." This name is actually the name of a town called Arizonac, the town south of the US-Mexican border at about 8 miles. Historically, the pronunciation of the town may be "alǐson" or "alǐsona". Language family in Ao Hamu, "I" sounds like the pronunciation of Spanish or English "r". In the 18th century, Spanish missionaries had to redraw the map of the southwest United States, when they will Arizonac renamed Arizona. Then this map published in Europe, so the entire U.S. southwest region (then classified as the new Spanish colony), it is called Arizona.
